Sequential Explained: Features, Types and Tips
From Dave Smith's first sequencers to today's Prophet-6, OB-6 and Fourm — here's what Sequential actually is, and what sets its instruments apart.
A respected synthesizer lineage
A sequential synthesizer typically refers to instruments from Sequential, a brand closely associated with classic analogue design and modern performance synthesis. A sequential synthesizer is often chosen for its musical voicing, solid build quality and straightforward workflow.
Designed for expressive playing
Many models in the sequential synthesizer range prioritise immediate control, with knobs, buttons and modulation options laid out for quick access. That makes a sequential synthesizer attractive to performers who want to shape tone in real time rather than rely on deep menus.
Studio and stage versatility
From rich pads to cutting leads and strong bass sounds, a sequential synthesizer can suit recording, live sets and sound design. It often integrates well with MIDI and external sequencing, while remaining inspiring to play from its own keyboard. For musicians in the UK looking for a premium instrument with a distinctive voice, a sequential synthesizer is a dependable option.
