Understanding String Action
String action describes the height of the strings above the fretboard and has a major impact on feel, playability and tone. Players often adjust string action to suit their technique, style and instrument setup.
Why Setup Matters
Lower string action can make fretting easier and improve speed, while higher action may suit strong strumming or help reduce fret buzz. For UK musicians, getting string action right is often part of maintaining reliable performance at home, in the rehearsal room and on stage.
Setup, Comfort and Tone
A well-balanced string action supports accurate intonation, comfortable playing and cleaner sound across the neck. If your instrument feels too stiff or rattles under the fingers, string action may be the key adjustment that improves the whole playing experience.
