Old Recorder

Vintage and Older Models

The old recorder category is useful for players interested in earlier instruments, whether for collecting, teaching or performing. Older recorders can offer characterful tone and a sense of history, particularly for musicians who enjoy traditional woodwind repertoire.

Materials and Style

Many older recorders were made in a style that reflects their period of manufacture, with differences in bore, finish and construction. UK buyers may be looking for a durable practice instrument, a period-inspired model or a recorder with a distinctive playing feel.

Assessing Condition

When choosing from the old recorder selection, condition, tuning and response are key considerations. A carefully chosen instrument can still be highly usable, especially for folk music, early music and educational purposes where authenticity and tone both matter.
